Specialist: Student Information Systems Secondary

JOB SUMMARY
Completes data requests for schools, central office staff, Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and other outside agencies as required or requested by supervisory staff. Trains and supports school staff in the system functionalities of the student information system, the electronic gradebook applications, and the online portal. Trains and offers support to school and central office-based staff in functionalities of the current student information system, data systems, online gradebook and online portal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports office with monitoring and adhering to all deadlines in Federal, State, and County reporting as mandated by state and federal laws.
- Monitors the student information system to ensure the quality of data.
- Communicates and explains the required data collection processes to secondary schools in three or more areas including: registration, enrollment, grade reporting, discipline, scheduling, and attendance.
- Participates in the dissemination of error reports to secondary schools for the correction of data. Assists the office by providing schools with the explanations of processes, requirements, and required data corrections.
- Collaborates with the division and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and quality of data and timely submission of student information maintained at the school level. Verifies that all data policies and regulations set by AACPS for schools are followed at the school level for compliance.
- Tests software versions/upgrades to ensure quality, functionality, and correct implementation of data systems in AACPS.
- Stays-up-to-date and helps plan for new data collections to support strategic initiatives.
- Supports the data quality effort of the Accountability Office through policy and implementation compliance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Two (2) years experience working with software applications required; and
- One (1) year experience working within a school environment and with school-based staff preferred;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of current trends and research in field of specialization.
- Knowledge of programs used to support student data systems.
- Ability to train staff in the use of software systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot in order to identify problems and solutions related to use of software systems.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidential data and files.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
