JOB SUMMARY
Supports the establishment and maintenance a school culture compatible with the Transformation Education philosophy and Expeditionary Learning (EL). Motivates positive student behavior, support teachers, and help to link students and their families to support services in the community. Oversees after-school programs and activities, peer mentoring and mediation programs, serve as liaison between the school and student's families, and assist the principal with student recruitment activities to grow and sustain enrollment. Transformation Education is an organizational philosophy emphasizing values, skills and beliefs necessary for a successful life. The EL approach is experiential and project-based, involving students in original research. Employing these approaches Monarch Academy will harness the organization's systems, staff, environment and curriculum to provide an enriched and effective milieu for educating young people, transforming how professionals think and act toward children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the principal to coordinate, supervise, and monitor student-related school activities/events, including extra-curricular activities.
- Assists the principal to market the school to the community to meet student enrollment projections.
- Assists the Principal to in the management of positive student behavior.
- Serves as parent/community liaison; point of contact for parent calls, and resolves issues or refers parents to appropriate staff.
- Contributes pertinent information for student suspension/appeal hearings as appropriate.
- Oversees the peer mediation program.
- Coordinates, designs and implements parental involvement activities tied to the Expeditionary Learning approach.
- Manages the Student Support Center.
- Assists the Principal in the development and implementation of detailed plans for daily classroom meetings in keeping with school priorities and structures.
- Through collaboration with students, parents, and staff, holds students accountable to school wide behavioral expectations designed by the staff in alignment with EL Design Principles and Benchmarks.
- Consistently implements school-wide student accountability systems and other agreements students make with the staff and school leadership
- Prepares students for and participates fully in student led conferences.
- Gives students and families clear and instructive information about student progress in all progress reports.
- In collaboration with teachers, ensures instructional practices, topics and projects are expeditionary learning in nature and promote character development.
- Participates fully and actively in community service activities with students.
- Prepares written reports and correspondence
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in education, guidance and counseling, social work or a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
- Five (5) years professional level experience working with children in a PreK-12 education setting required.

- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills that demonstrate a professional demeanor.
- Strong organizational and public relations skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required;
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
