Manager: Audio Visual Services

JOB SUMMARY
Supervises the work of the technician(s) engaged in the repair and maintenance of audio and video equipment, as well as the installation of interactive white boards, projectors, sound enhancement systems, and document cameras in classrooms and administrative offices. Work involves responsibility for scheduling, assigning work of the technician(s); ordering, stocking, maintaining an ample inventory of parts, tools, and accessories; and designating work methods and techniques to effect the safe and efficient operations of the shop facility. In addition, works closely with design, construction and administrative staff identifying specifications for equipping classrooms with the latest A/V technology, and performs more complex skilled technical work at the central-based facility as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises AV technicians engaged in the survey and design of audio-visual systems for classrooms, conference rooms, cafeterias and any other AACPS space requesting AV equipment. This includes working to modernize our Audio Visual Service offerings
- Oversees the maintenance of digital signage systems, video broadcast systems and cable TV access throughout the Anne Arundel County School System and implements design changes for usage versatility.
- Supervises AV technicians engaged in AV inventory management, project management, repair, service, preventive maintenance, installation, deinstallation of audio-visual equipment including but not limited to interactive white boards/panels, mounted projectors, sound enhancement systems, TVs and document cameras in classrooms. Establishes work priorities. Assigns and schedules work for electronic services and AV Installation technicians.
- Manages contracts and supervises AV technicians engaged in inspections of contracted audio-visual projects.
- HR duties include: interviews, recommendations to hire, offboarding; training, tracking hours and annual reviews of assigned employees.
- Assists in planning, developing, maintaining knowledge base, and presentation of AV and video equipment training as well as conducts computer equipment in-services workshops/activities for media specialists, teachers, and/or other school staff. Provides special technical audio-visual support for the central office and for various public events (during and after normal business hours) throughout the year.
- Creates/maintains/updates: purchasing vehicles (Master Agreements) for all audio-visual equipment; system-wide maintenance programs, SOPs and procedures for all audio-visual programs on an annual basis or whenever needed. Orders, stocks, and maintains an ample inventory of all parts, tools, accessories, and equipment stored in a computer record keeping system and oversees daily execution of maintaining up-to-date files into system.
- Serves as a liaison to instructional technology and planning and design to develop specifications and recommendations for the design, modernization, purchase and installation of audio-visual technology type equipment used in schools and administrative offices.
- Keeps shop facility and service vehicles in neat, clean, and safe order. Maintains vehicle records. Schedules routine preventive maintenance for service vehicles accordingly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required; and
- Other: Appropriate vocational training in electronic theory and practice preferred;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Five (5) years professional experience in the repair, servicing, and preventive maintenance of AV, video and computer vocational equipment and related accessories. At least two (2) years of which at the AV, Video and Computer Maintenance and Services Technician level or comparable position required; and
- Three (3) years experience in a supervisory or management role required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Demonstrated knowledge of good practices for installation of Audio/Video equipment, low voltage cabling, signal distribution systems and tools of the trade.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work, practices, and procedures of a shop facility.
- Ability to plan, organize and administer system-wide maintenance of AV, video, and computer equipment and to assist in developing training programs for media specialists, teachers, students, and/or other school staff.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills, (oral and written) and the ability to work closely with teachers, media specialists, and other school staff in demonstrating the proper use and operation of AV, video, and computer equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Industry Certification relevant to this job preferred.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
- Proof of a good driving record required.
