Position Summary         

Is this position exempt from overtime pay?

No

Provides for instruction of students by accessing AACPS curriculum, developing and delivering instructional plans, creating and securing instructional materials, and implementing modifications to meet the needs of his/her selected caseload of student(s) that are unable to attend school full-time due to medical/emotional conditions or administrative placement. Hours may vary.

 

Acceptance of a home teacher position requires the staff to complete the required hours for assigned case(s). For AACPS permanent employees, no paid leave or other benefits are granted for home teaching services (i.e. sick leave, business leave, vacation days, etc.). For home teachers that are non-permanent home teachers, limited leave is available in accordance with the paid leave for temporary employees guidelines.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

No

1.       Provides appropriate grade level course instruction based on the mandated curriculum in a variety of settings and locations throughout the Anne Arundel County. Keeps assigned student(s) on pace with the curriculum to prepare student(s) for the eventual return to school.

2.       Utilizes appropriate instructional materials, resources, and technology, to enhance instruction and engage student, while supporting their diverse needs, modifications, and accommodations.

3.       Offers instruction to assist student in reaching their academic Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals, as applicable.  Responsible for following the modifications/accommodations outlined in a student's IEP or 504 Plan, as applicable

4.       Provides the required number of instructional hours and documents all content/curriculum covered at each session.

5.       Provides timely feedback concerning student progress to parents/guardians and secures parental/guardian consent or acknowledgement for each session

6.       Implements positive behavior management strategies to support a positive learning relational environment.

7.       Maintains and logs communication with student's family, school-based point of contact (school counselors, teachers, and IEP/504 teams, as appropriate), and Home and Hospital Teaching (HHT) Dept.

8.       Attends required meetings/trainings by AACPS, HHT Dept, and school-based team, as appropriate. 

9.       Follows all procedures and policies in compliance with the state law, HHT Department, and Board of Education Policies.

10.     Completes reports and paperwork in a timely manner.

11.     Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

 

 

 

 

·       Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.

 

 

Experience

·       Two (2) years of successful classroom teaching preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·       Knowledge of current trends, research in field of specialization and methodology in instructional techniques.

·       Knowledge of 504 and IEP.

·       Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively

·       Ability to modify curriculum to meet the short-term, itinerant instructional service mandated by state law

·       Ability to modify curriculum for the special needs of the student

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality

·       Ability to maintain a professional relationship with students, parents/guardians, school based staff, colleagues, and Board of Education staff.

·       Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and planning skills.

·       Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.

·       Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.

·       Demonstrated proficiency with business software (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred).

 

Licenses/Certifications

·       Possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and have daily access to reliable transportation.
