Position Summary          

Is this position exempt from overtime pay?

No

Serves as lead Water Safety Instructor for Anne Arundel County's 5th grade water safety program, drown proofing.  Duties include the "in the water" instruction established by the curriculum, the supervision of the students at all time while the students are in the pool area, completion of individual Skill Achievement Reports, the care and maintenance of materials of instruction, and assisting the Teacher Specialist during parent training.  Work is planned and implemented under the direction of the Coordinator of Outdoor Education and the professional staff.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

No

1. Serves as lead water safety instructor in the implementation of skill development as outlined in the Teacher Handbook to Drown proofing Program.

2. Completes student skill testing and evaluation form for each student in his/her class or group.

3. Maintains the pool and in some cases the operation of the pool as per regulations established by Anne Arundel County Health Department, Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center and/or pool to which assigned.

4. Works cooperatively with all school personnel and parents involved in the Drown proofing Program.

5. Assists in training of parents and volunteers.

6. Assists in the supervision of volunteer staff.

7. Attends staff in-services and meetings as scheduled.

8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

·  High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate preferred.

 

Experience

·  Must have teaching experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 
 

Licenses/Certifications

·  Must hold current Anne Arundel County Lifeguard's License and CPR certification.

·  Current Water Safety or Lifeguard Instructor certification and AA Co. Pool Operators license preferred.
