Senior Specialist: Family Involvement
|
JOB SUMMARY Acts as a liaison among schools, families, and community organizations to create and foster partnerships that support and accelerate student achievement. Designs, supports and evaluates programs and processes that meaningfully involve families and community partnerships in the educational process. May work nights and weekends.
Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed:
- Evenings/Nights

- Outside of normal business hours
- Weekends
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with the Senior Manager of School and Family Partnerships to establish priorities and initiatives.
- Develops, implement, maintain, and evaluate family and community involvement initiatives, trainings, and materials.
- Collaborates with school and Central Office staff to promote the importance of family and community involvement in schools and to provide the model examples of best practices. Including the Communications Office to facilitate the flow of information to families in English or in their native language.
- Develops materials and provides training to school staff and parent groups to encourage and support family and community involvement; Educates parents and community members about school system policies and procedures, as well as their role in the school system, so they are equipped to advocate for and knowledgeably address parent/community issues.
- Coordinates and facilitates meetings of organized parent and community groups at the county level. Participates in professional relationships with county and state family engagement and volunteer management organizations.
- Designs and implements annual county-wide training on effective volunteer program management; provides follow-up support and consultation to individual school level staff and volunteer coordinators; and coordinate recognition for volunteers.
- Collaborates with community and faith-based groups to establish, maintain and evaluate partnerships with schools, including school initiatives as mentorships, tutoring, after school programs, the Weekend Food Program, and other volunteer opportunities.
- Establishes, promotes, and maintains effective two-way communication with families and community groups through a variety of means, such as face-to-face meetings, newsletters, AACPS-TV programs, electronic communication, a website, surveys, etc.
- Develops assessment tools and collect and analyze data related to family and community activities.
- Participates in professional development to enhance job-related knowledge and skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience required;
- Demonstrated leadership as a member of a school staff or equivalent experience in volunteer management or family community involvement preferred.
- Experience in staff development with a thorough knowledge of adult learning techniques required.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
