JOB SUMMARY
Performs monitoring for special education compliance using the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) rubrics and requirements in all Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors a representativbe number of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students receiving special education services.
  • Identifies the staff members and specific IEPs to be monitored for assigned schools.
  • Completes the MSDE and/or AACPS monitoring rubrics.
  • Compiles monitoring data electronically within the prescribed schedule.
  • Meets with the Program Manager for Compliance and Legal Issues, or designee, as scheduled.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.

Experience

  • Three (3) years special education experience required.
  • Three (3) years experience in developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Thorough understanding of the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 and COMAR regulations regarding Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Judgment, initiative, inter-personal, organizational, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and follow written instructions and specifications, communicate and work effectively and harmoniously with supervisors, administrators, and other employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, electronic management program for special education, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Special Education Certificate issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred;
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving Requirements

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
