JOB SUMMARY
Performs specialized technical work in the creation of a wide variety of video productions for creative, instructional, and public relations purposes. Responds to video requests and consults with teachers, administrators, and other staff in all aspects of the creation of a video project (purpose, content, audience, etc). Production Specialists provide expertise to recommend the most effective use of video to meet the stated needs of the originator while maintaining the goals of the school system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with teachers, administrators, and other school and central office staff from initial idea through final production. Provides expertise and advice to determine the most effective method to achieve stated goals.
  • Determines the equipment, workflow, and schedule to complete any assigned video project within a stated deadline.
  • Sets up and use a wide variety of video production equipment (i.e., cameras, lighting, audio) both out in the field and in a studio environment.
  • Works as part of a team in the production of programs for broadcast and streaming, including such live events as board meetings and graduations.
  • Produces a wide variety of video productions through such techniques and/or tasks as setting up cameras, lighting, and sound; video recording; music selection; audio mixing; production of motion graphics; and video editing.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends equipment to expand department capabilities.
  • Participates in professional development within the video production field for new developments and innovations and shares knowledge and ideas with other staff.
  • Demonstrates how to set up and use video production equipment for staff outside the department.
  • Assists with maintaining a video server, video catalog, and any departmental records and inventory.
  • May travel to school locations. Board vehicle is available.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in video, communication or related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required;
  • Other: Portfolio of samples demonstrating skill in video production required.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience

  • Two (2) years experience working in the production of video materials for instructional/public relations use in an educational system required;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in all areas of television/video production.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Final Cut Pro.
  • Knowledge of and experience with use of motion graphic software such as After Effects.
  • Knowledge of and experience with streaming and virtual meeting platforms (e.g. YouTube, Zoom, and Google Meet).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet set deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.
