Teacher: Hearing Impaired Infant & Toddler Program (ITP)

JOB SUMMARY Provides instruction for children between birth and three who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families. Nature of work includes providing and coordinating services for children and families in a variety of daily settings: conferring with parents regarding progress/problems in the acquisition of skills; teaching oral communication, total communication, sign communication and cued communication as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, prepares and presents lesson plans, assignments, instructional materials for deaf and hard of hearing students including provision of support to preschoolers who attend integrated school settings or child care centers; development of awareness/orientation programs for staff members, coordination of inter- and intra-agency support services for students, and interpreting.
- Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
- Demonstrates and uses teaching strategies to present information in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and the emotional development of children.
- Confers with parents regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary.
- Serves on special committees.
- Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings.
- Provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives with special emphasis on teaching techniques related to providing instruction to Hearing Impaired students.
- Knowledge of materials in field of specialization. Knowledge of current trends and research in field of specialization.
- Knowledge and facility of signing and interpreting.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in technical areas of instruction.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Ability to deal effectively with students, staff and parents.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
