Specialist: Communication Integration
|
JOB SUMMARY Supports the Chief Communications Officer, Director, Communications, Manager, Web Services, and Communications Division personnel through the development, implementation, and monitoring of AACPS' storytelling tool, digital assistant/AI technology, and mobile app content integrations; is the primary staff member responsible for adjusting and optimizing web content based on analytic insights, managing mobile application content integration, and serving as the primary source for the district's storytelling and engagement strategies on digital platforms; in conjunction with Manager of Web Services; and posts time-sensitive, relevant, and emergency information to website and social media sites.
Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- In conjunction with appropriate personnel, develops, enhances, and implements policies, procedures, and protocols related to Web storytelling tools and digital assistant/AI communications initiatives for the school system and individual schools. Conveys information on any needed technical changes for website to Director, Communications, and/or Manager of Web Services.
- Manages, maintains, and continuously improves digital assistant/AI functionality across all district and school websites to enhance user experience and engagement.
- Analyzes web analytics and chatbot interaction data to refine content, improve user experience, and optimize communication strategies.
- Regularly updates, manages, and curates engaging, accurate, and relevant web content aligned with district messaging, branding, and communication goals.
- Implements and provides innovative, comprehensive storytelling strategies for digital platforms, proactively identifying, drafting, and sharing compelling district stories and successes.
- Collaborates with schools and departments to ensure consistency and accuracy of web content across all digital channels especially as it relates to digital assistant/AI response to public inquiries.
- Coordinates the integration of website content with the district’s mobile app, ensuring seamless user experiences across platforms.
- Stays informed on best practices, trends, and emerging technologies in digital communications, digital assistant management, and storytelling.
- Provides training and guidance to school-based and district-level web content contributors and stakeholders as necessary.
- Provides backup support to Manager, Web Services for AACPS website, including posting emergency notices and/or other vital information. Available for 24/7 emergency postings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in web programming and site design from a regionally accredited college or university required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Two (2) years programming experience with HTML/CSS, PHP, Python, JavaScript, Java, Ruby, and Swift required;
- Two (2) years experience with digital content editing/tools including but not limited to Adobe graphics tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Express), preferred;
- Three (3) years experience managing web content, chatbot functionality, or similar digital communications tools preferred;
- Experience in educational or public sector digital communication roles preferred;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Working knowledge of social media and social media websites.
- Familiarity with Section 508 specifications.
- Proven experience utilizing analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, chatbot analytics tools) to inform strategic content decisions.
- Demonstrated skills in digital storytelling, content creation, and editorial processes.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS), website editing, and mobile app integration.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with K-12 educational settings and communication needs.
- Experience with customer service or community engagement through digital platforms.
- Experience with Web-Authoring Tools and Content Management Systems and web-based video technology.
- Experience in streaming multimedia and the addition of audio/video to websites.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
- Familiarity with high traffic and/or school system web sites/issues preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Copilot preferred).
Language Requirements
- Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish native or near native preferred.
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
