Manager: Print Services

JOB SUMMARY Manages the AACPS Print Shop staff. Responsible for the printing and quality control of a variety of materials including simple copies, district-level publications and handbooks, and wide format posters. Supervises staff in the operation and maintenance of traditional and digital presses/printers, assorted bindery equipment, and project tracking software. Recommends acquisition of new technology, equipment, software, and supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises staff assigned to Print Shop. Assigns work, evaluates performance, approves overtime, trains staff, and recommends/institues discipline, as needed. Maintains staff-hour records on work accomplished.
- Plans and schedules to ensure that each print/copy job is delivered as requested and in a timely manner. Plans work and organizes schedule to meet specific hard deadlines, such as meetings, events, and the beginning of the school year. Works with the mailroom to coordinate distribution of large, system-wide print jobs, such as the Student Handbook and certificates.
- Supervises all work related to printing—job tracking, accounting, platemaking, print and copy work, collating, and bindery. Ensures the highest possible quality for each job. Steps in to perform work in the print shop as needed. Determines which work cannot be handled in-house and works directly with outside vendors to bid jobs and schedule delivery/distribution.
- Distributes job jackets and sets forth general instructions for the accomplishment of work. Assures that all materials are on hand to complete a job. Works closely with designers to meet the specifications of requested projects. Works with all department staff, as needed, on any print-related project.
- Researches and recommends the purchase/lease of software, supplies, and equipment to meet the printing needs of the school system. Works with the director to plan budget for Print Shop.
- Oversees inventory to maintains established levels of papers, inks, and all other supplies needed for the shop. Works with the warehouse to maintain minimum levels of specified forms and documents.
- Meets with all levels of AACPS school and central office staff, as necessary, to discuss and plan jobs. Acts as a liaison among the various school departments concerning printing matters in the absence of the Director of Design & Print Services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Five (5) years professional experience in printing or a related functional area required. and
- Three (3) years experience in a supervisory or management role required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of printing, copying, and bindery equipment.
- Ability to maintain inventory and keep records of print shop operations and expenditures.
- Keeps current on new technology, methods, and equipment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, teachers, principals, and vendors.
- Ability to organize the workflow of multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
