Technician: Early Childhood Intervention
|
JOB SUMMARY Assists in the implementation of lesson plans including educational and behavioral strategies for students relating to their disability. Provides special education services and behavioral support to students and teachers as part of the Individual Educational Programs (IEP) team. Travels to homes or between schools working with children, the teachers, and their caregivers in specific instructional and behavioral strategies. Work assignments are performed with a view toward maintaining students in the least restrictive environment. The position may be 10 or 12 months depending on assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works directly with students, families, Central Office staff or school-based teachers to implement lesson plans and activities in community-based settings and home settings.
- Assists teachers with implementing IEP goals and objectives and Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP) outcomes.
- Assists with creating and modifying lesson plans and providing strategies to differentiate instructional materials.
- Documents and maintains student data.
- Collects, organizes, and reports data into visual or written summaries.
- Monitors student behavior and models current best practices intervention techniques.
- Participates in meetings, conferences, and professional development.
- Travels throughout the county to provide services in home, community, and school-based settings during normal business hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Associate's Degree in human development, child psychology, counseling, special education, or related fields from a regionally accredited college or university required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Two (2) years experience in Special Education required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.

- Willingness to learn and assists in implementing instructional methods, strategies, and techniques to assist students.
- Ability to exercise patience, courtesy, tact, and good judgment requiring both physical and mental capacities for dealing with difficult students.
- Ability to establish effective and cooperative working relations with professional and support staff.
- Ability to independently plan and follow assignments.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred). For new permanent secretarial/clerical/technician hires, a minimum score on a pre-employment assessment is required.
- Satisfactory completion of all required tests.
Language Requirements
- Bilingual native or near native preferred.
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
Driving Requirements
- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
