This position is up to 20 hours per week. The hourly rate for temporary staff is $40.00 and permanent staff are paid in alignment with their negotiated agreement.
JOB SUMMARY Provides instruction to students in a variety of in-class or virtual classroom settings and activities. Provides tutoring for students in one on one or small group settings to meet academic, social, and emotional needs of students. Monitors student performance in their regular courses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, prepares, implements, and evaluates instructional lessons, methods, strategies, and materials to meet student needs in one on one or small group settings.
- Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
- Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques.
- Maintains order and discipline in the in-class or virtual classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Creates an in-class or virtual classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Attends and participates in staff/faculty meetings, parent and student conferences, may serve on committees, and provides recommendations.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law.
- Tutors students in an in-person or virtual environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience

- Knowledge of current trends, research in field of specialization and methodology in instructional techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in technical area of instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Exemplary organizational skills.
- Understanding the requisite courses and preparation needed for acceptance and success at a four-year college or university.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill, and experience to support their child’s education experience.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
- Familiarity or experience with electronic leave reporting/substitute requesting systems (e.g. SmartFind Express), electronic grade reporting (e.g. Power Teacher GradeBook) and electronic teacher/parent communication tool (e.g. ParentConnect) and ability to use instructional technology hardware such as document cameras, presenters, and SmartBoards, etc.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or
- Hold or be eligible for Educator License: Initial Professional License (IPL) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
