JOB SUMMARY Teaches introductory and advanced engineering related subjects in high school or middle school, with emphasis on practical applications; develops lessons and instructs students in various engineering related fields. Instructs students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to meet course curricular expectations. Provides a safe environment that encourages risk-taking by using rigorous, relevant and engaging learning experiences. Establishes an inquiry culture for learning that is project-based, innovative and challenging. Counsels students on educational programs and advises them of possible career paths and trends. Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, prepares and delivers lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials to students in a safe and appropriate manner. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
- Presents, demonstrates and uses various educational technologies to aid in sharing subject matter to students.
- Provides an atmosphere and safe environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and the emotional development of children.
- Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities. Alerts appropriate staff if machines are in need of service or repair.
- Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. e.g. field trips, extra-curricular activities, etc.
- Keeps attendance and grade records as required by Board Policy/Administrative Regulation.
- Prepares, administers and evaluates all required formative and summative assessments.
- Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise.
- Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary.
- Serves on school-based committees or teams.
- Attends and actively participates in professional learning opportunities related to technology and engineering education, staff/faculty meetings; and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, methods, and student learning objectives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
- One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools, if assigned to Virtual Academy required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives with special emphasis on teaching techniques.
- Knowledge of materials in field of specialization. Knowledge of current trends and research in field of specialization.
- Ability to safely manage a dynamic classroom and prototyping lab.
- Knowledge of the safe use of tools, machines and specialized equipment.
- Ability to effectively speak, write, and communicate.
- Ability to deal effectively with students, staff and parents.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in engineering areas of instruction.
- Demonstrated proficiency with CAD software.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee is required for in-person appearances at various intervals throughout the duration of the school year.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Language Requirements
- Bilingual/Biliterate If assigned to bilingual program, bilingual and biliterate in targeted language required.
Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or
- Hold or be eligible for Educator License: Initial Professional License (IPL) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
