JOB SUMMARY
Serves as a mentor and coach, providing individualized support to teacher(s) participating in the University of Maryland, Graduate Certificate Program. The mentor supports the teachers' efforts as they integrate new learning across school environments while supporting the philosophy, goals and responsibilities of teaching in Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the teacher learner in developing effective short range and long range plans using approved curricular documents and resources.
  • Coaches the teacher learner in the use of a variety of teaching strategies and inclusive practices.
  • Observes the teacher learner and provides constructive formative and summative feedback to support planning, teaching, assessing for learning and strategy implementation.
  • Supports the teacher learner in her/his efforts to overcome challenges and identify solutions; coaches and reflects with the teacher learner for effective classroom management and implementation of inclusive practices.
  • Assists the teacher learner in her/his efforts to administer and effectively use assessments and progress monitoring to guide instructional/classroom management decisions and document progress.
  • Supports the teacher learner's efforts to fulfill responsibilities related to the individual school and school system policies and procedures.
  • Coaches the teacher learner on responsibilities related to the special education process, and students' support plans, use of professional materials related to curricular documents, collaborative planning, and inclusive practices.
  • Attends, actively participates and supports planning for monthly teacher learner (UMD cohort) seminars.
  • Maintains records regarding interaction with the teacher learners and models professional competence, commitment and mutual respect.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Master's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

Experience

  • Five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • A thorough grasp of instructional practices and pedagogy and an in-depth knowledge of content.
  • In-depth knowledge of AACPS programs, policies and practices.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and apply cognitive, instructional and technical coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners.
  • Excellent classroom management and behavior management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Standard Professional Certificate I (SPC I) educator certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving Requirements

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.

  • 40% weekly day travel within the community Mentor will support teacher learners across the district in their classrooms/home schools, virtually and/or in person.
