JOB SUMMARY
An instructional leader and in-school face of the Signature Program. Outside of the instructional duties this position will serve as part of a School-Based Team (SBT) consisting of the Signature Program Facilitator (SPF), guidance representation, administrative liaison, and content teachers within the scope of the Signature program who work in collaboration with the Integrated Community Stakeholders Team (ICST). The Lead Teacher works with five major school-based components of the Signature program: curriculum, faculty, students, parents, and data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches and maintains the records for the primary Signature-specific course offerings, Explorations I, II and/or any specialized or technical Signature courses.
  • Collaborates with content teachers, and business partners to develop curriculum for advisory lessons, overlays, modules, and Signature specific courses.
  • Meets regularly with content team leaders to discuss curriculum delivery, adjust timelines, and identify interdisciplinary topics.
  • Works with the school-based team to coordinate and review curriculum implementation of content and delivery that includes systems goals to eliminate the achievement gap.
  • Works with other program leaders (AVID, magnets, AP, CTE, etc.) to ensure student choice and access.
  • Meets regularly with SPF and Administrator Liaison for program highlights and updates to disseminate to all faculty members.
  • Maintains regular communication with parents of students involved in the program for progress, permissions, and involvement opportunities.
  • Serves as the primary student contact for Signature related coursework.
  • Assists feeder middle schools with recruiting incoming 9th graders, and in-house recruitment for prospective students in current 9-12 classes.
  • Collaborates with the school-based team to identify, plan, and coordinate speakers, field trips and work-based opportunities – mock interviews, internships, mentors, job-shadowing.
  • Collects data and works with the school-based team to analyze such data for student achievement and program improvement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.

Experience

  • Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience or as a school counselor required;
  • working with public school personnel and members of the business community required;

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead groups and teams.
  • Ability to manage projects and associated budgets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams on the design, implementation, nurturing, and evaluation of model programs.
  • Ability to relate effectively with professional colleagues, staff, students, and parents.
  • Familiarity or experience with electronic leave reporting/substitute requesting systems (e.g. SmartFind Express), electronic grade reporting (eg Power Teacher GradeBook) and electronic teacher/parent communication tool (e.g. ParentConnect) and ability to use instructional technology hardware such as document cameras, presenters, and SmartBoards etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Educator Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or
  • Hold or be eligible for School Counselor Certification issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving Requirements

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
