Job Description:
- Provides instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using current instructional techniques which meet the needs of all students. Employs a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
- Prepare materials, set up the classroom, review lesson plans and updates or announcements from the school administration before the start of the day.
- Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings and activities.
- Monitors and evaluates student performance while developing and implementing plans to improve student performance.
- Maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices.
- Cultivates a positive classroom and school environment so that each student will have the opportunity to develop intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally.
- Maintains order and discipline in the classroom and throughout the schoolhouse conducive to effective learning and supervises students.
- Plans and provides for relevant and engaging learning experiences aligned to standards.
- Demonstrates content knowledge and the ability to implement, adapt, and differentiate the AACPS curriculum. Develops, selects, and modifies long-range and short-range instructional plans and materials to meet the needs and engage all students.
- Creates and maintains a collaborative and engaging learning environment for students, considering research and best practices on teaching and learning and social emotional wellness.
- Prepares, administers, scores, and uses diagnostic, formative, and summative data to monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Keeps attendance and grade records as required by Board Policy/Administrative Regulation.
- Administer assessments such as quizzes, tests, and projects to evaluate student understanding.
- Review and grade student work, providing constructive feedback to support growth and improvement. Keep detailed records of student performance and progress for reporting purposes.
- Communicate regularly with parents through emails, phone calls, conferences, and/or newsletters to provide updates on student performance and classroom activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary activities, share best practices, and discuss student progress. Attend faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and other professional development sessions as required.
- Participates in professional growth and development to expand knowledge of pedagogy and content knowledge in the related fields of elementary education.
- Uses technology (laptops, desktops, specialized assessment and data analysis software), electronic leave reporting/substitute requesting systems, electronic grade reporting/gradebook, electronic teacher/parent communication tools, instructional technology, and business technology applications.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education level being taught: Elementary (emphasis: 2nd grade).
Teachers may be placed at any school within the district and will work 37.5 hours for 191-200 days per year.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Education or in a related field and hold or be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Conditional, Standard Professional, or Advanced Professional certification in Elementary Education (grades 1-6). |
